Snake in the Grass by Alan Ayckbourn

Annabel returns home following her father’s death and is confronted by Alice, the nurse who has been helping younger sister Miriam care for the old man. Alice has proof that Miriam in fact killed the father. She is intent on blackmailing the two sisters to obtain a large share of the inheritance.

As the sisters join forces to rid themselves of the pest, a sinister plot unfolds, a body is hurled down a well and haunted spirits add suspense to an already treacherous garden tale.

Irene Arseneault:  Director

Irene is thrilled to be directing Snake in the Grass. Mr. Aykbourn has been a long time favorite author of hers and she was delighted to discover this seedy little tale of his. Past credits at Hudson Village theatre include stage management of last year’s production of Quartet, director for All Grown Up and Rumours, as well as appearing in the role of Jill in Spring Planting. Other Hudson directing credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technical Dreamcoat and The King and I. In Montreal, Irene worked extensively with Lyric Theatre staging their Choral shows and directing their productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Evita, Company and Broadway Beckons.

Heather Bowser
– Stage Manager

Heather first began her theatre career in 2002 when she worked backstage on Steel Magnolias. Since then she has worked on Shirley Valentine, The Odd Couple, Opening Night, Looking, 4 Strong Winds, A Flea in Her Ear, All Grown Up, Storm Warning, Rumors, Old Love, The Dik and Mitzi Anniversary Show, and most recently Having Hope at Home. Heather is also a second year theatre production student at Ryerson University. She is thrilled to have been given the summer Stage Manager position for a fourth summer and wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Hudson Village Theatre for making it such a great place to work.

Karen Cromar: Annabel Chester

This is Karen’s seventeenth production at the Village Theatre. Her last production here was Looking directed by Gordon McCall. It’s exciting for her to once again be doing a “thriller”, especially one written by Alan Ayckbourn. She was last seen as Mrs. Krebs in the The Segal Centre’s critically acclaimed production of Inherit The Wind. Other stage credits include; Last of The Red Hot Lovers (The Piggery), High Infidelity, Holiday Dingles, (Leonardo da Vinci Ctr), Murray McLauchlan’s Eddie, Love List, (Trouper Belle),The MECCA-nominated Kindertransport, Prodigy, (Persephone), Wind In The Willows (Geordie), The Men’s Club ( E.M.M.A. Now), and A Phoenix Too Frequent (Gravy Bath). Film: How Will I Know?, The Crime, House of Darkness, Overdue, and Snip Cut. Karen is a co-founder and producer of the production company The One Acters, she plays guitar and sings in the cover band Nightshift, co-directs a sacred choir, and works as an actor training Canada Customs officers and McGill Medical students. She would like to dedicate this performance to her best friend who has taught her so very much about her craft.

Susan Bain: Alice Moody

Susan is absolutely delighted to be able to work and play once again on the Hudson Village Theatre stage. Having been lucky enough to be included in a few Hudson shows in the past (personal favourite "Girl in a Goldfish Bowl", "Flea In Her Ear", "Campbell's Sutra", "Rumors"), playing in "Snake in the Grass" with Melanie, Karen C., Irene, Heather, Karen P. and Lea can be seen as even more icing on the cake.

Susan has been seen occasionally on the small screen in "St. Urban's Street Horseman", "Summer House", and is soon to be seen in theatres in "Source Code".

Melanie Doerr: Miriam Chester

Melanie is very at home on the Village Theatre stage, this being her 6th appearance on it. Previous productions include Sexy Laundry, Looking and Campbell’s Sutra. She has also directed several Pantos including this years sold out hit Red Riding Hood.  Before moving to Hudson from Vancouver, she performed roles for Ruby Slippers,  La Luna Productions, Tamahnous Theatre, and The Caravan Farm Theatre. Film and television credits include The X Files, Dead Man’s Gun, The Ecstacy Note and Durham County. Watch for her return the Village Theatre stage in Snake if the Grass. Melanie also teaches a variety of acting classes for young people through Hullabaloo Theatre Classes, and this summer, in partnership with Mary Vuorela, will offer an Arts Day Camp through Hudson Village Theatre.
