Hudson Village Theatre restructures for the future
HUDSON -- The Hudson Village Theatre Board of Directors has approved the reorganization of the theatre’s operational structure to more cost effectively grow the business as it moves into its 20th year.
Managing an arts organization is challenging, and particularly so in economic circumstances such as we have now. The approved overall restructuring will reduce operating costs and reflect the board’s responsibility to maintain the success and viability of the theatre, in the face of virtually no government support, and very limited corporate sponsorship.
Beginning in 2012 the theatre’s schedule will include a Summer Festival of plays, and a visiting Artistic Director will be engaged specifically to organize that programme. A new accountant has been hired to ensure more efficient financial control.
Deciding not to employ a full-time Artistic Director in the future, the board noted the significant contribution made by the incumbent Andrew Johnston. “He has given us great artistic leadership and passion during the past seven years” said the theatre’s President Clint Ward, “and we very much hope that he will remain involved with the theatre, and direct or act in some of the plays to be staged in the future.”
“Our theatre could not sustain that full-time position,” added Vice President Cam Gentile, “but this change will bring a wide range of talent and experience to our theatre, and we feel it can only add to the successes and strengths achieved during Andrew’s time here”
The rich diversity of programs offered year round at Hudson Village Theatre, such as the Film Society, the high definition opera series, musical events, partnering with Greenwood as a venue for StoryFest, playing host to several events during the annual Hudson Music Festival, and providing a stage for other productions from the performing arts, will remain unchanged.
Hudson Village Theatre will continue to provide the high professional level of theatre and arts events that its patrons, who come from Montreal, the West Island, Western Quebec and the Ontario corridor, have come to expect.
The Hudson Village Theatre is looking forward to the 20th anniversary in 2012, and gearing up for several special events with Hudson connections which will be announced early in the New Year.
